The best DIY face masks for flawless skin
Hey Fam! If you are like me, and are a busy gal or guy that can’t always take the time to treat yourself to a facial or skin treatment, a DIY face mask will be right up your alley. I love to throw on a homemade face mask while I am working at home to feel a bit more pampered. A lot of the ingredients in the masks below are things that you can find in your cupboard or fridge! So fret no more…I have a skin mask below for everyone!
Breakouts be gone mask:
Suffering with a few pesky pimples or zits? Mix this mask up to say bye bye to your breakouts! 3 simple ingredients that are great for skin: lemon juice, baking soda, and honey. Lemon is a great ingredient for face masks as it is antibacterial and great for brightening. Baking soda, similar to lemon, has antibacterial properties but is great as a natural chemical exfoliant. Lastly, honey is hydrating and an antioxidant that protects skin from environmental stressors like pollution and sun. The mask should tingle a bit (if you feel burning, rinse immediately!), leave it on for 5-15 minutes and rinse with a lukewarm wash cloth.
- 1/2 TSP Lemon Juice
- 1/2 TSP Baking Soda
- 1 TBSP Honey
Moisture Bomb Mask:
This mask is for those looking for a hydration boost! Better yet, it also has only three ingredients. Avocado is the main ingredient, which has great antioxidant carotenoids like alpha-carotene and beta carotene that provide great skin protection from environmental stressors. Additionally, avocado is super moisturizing. Yogurt is a great source for lactic acid which a gentle exfoliant found in many skincare products that dissolves dead skin and tightens skin. And finish it off with honey once again. Leave this mask on for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.
- 1/2 an Avocado
- 1 TBSP Yogurt (higher the fat the better!)
- 1 TBSP Honey
Chocolate Time: Who doesn’t love chocolate?! I know I do. Don’t just indulge by taking a bite of chocolate, but let your skin indulge in its decadence! Coco powder is amazing not only because of how tasty it is, but it also provides sun protection and repairs skin cells. Its rich in antioxidants and helps fight away free radicals. Free radicals rob your skin of oxygen and cause your skin to be lifeless, leading to a plethora of problems like blemishes and dullness. I’ve already raved about the last two ingredients, so of course, time to throw in some honey and yogurt! Leave the mask on for 10 minutes then rinse with warm water.
- 1 TSP Coco Powder
- 1 TSP Honey
- 1 TSP Yogurt
Cucumber Cooler:
Textured, rough, or inflamed skin? This is the mask for you. Cucumber contains caffeic acid and vitamin C which both fight off inflamed and irritated skin. Its high water content makes it a great ingredient for hydration. Throw in some brown sugar for a natural exfoliant. Also milk, which soothes irritation and is a great natural cleanser that shrinks pores. The usual suspect, honey, is also an ingredient. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes and gently rub mask into the skin. Rinse well with warm water.
- 1/2 a Cucumber (pureed in a food processor)
- 1 TBSP Brown Sugar
- 1 TBSP Honey
- 1/2 Cup of Milk
Glow up:
Looking for a last minute boost in radiance and glow? This last mask is just the one for you! Turmeric contains an antioxidant called curcumin which impacts the breakdown of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. All of these are what keeps our skin tight and youthful. Turmeric also brightens skin tone and calms irritation. Yep, you guessed it, we are adding honey and yogurt into this mask! For my extra dehydrated people out there, throw in some coconut oil as well. Apply the mask with a clean face brush (one you don’t care about staining) as turmeric can stain things easily. Be careful with your clothes as well, since you don’t want those stained! Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse with a warm dark wash cloth.
- 1 TSP Turmeric
- 1 TSP Honey
- 1 TSP Yogurt
